Leonardo's BriteCloud was recently given a 'fielding recommendation' distinction by the Air National Guard Air Force Reserve Command Test Center (AATC), a US Defense Department Test Program.
Since 2019, the Air National Guard has conducted extensive testing and live trials on the F-16 Fighting Falcon, a 4th generation aircraft. After years of testing and exercise based training, it was found that BriteCloud 218 meets or exceeds all expectations.
BriteCloud is an expendable active decoy for RF-guided missiles and fire control radars, helping protect aircraft and crew from missile strikes. The decoy can be employed on fighter and wide-body aircraft as well as rotary platforms. Unlike traditional counter missile defense technology, such as flares and chaffs, BriteCloud has superior electronic warfare capabilities to counter radar-guided threats.
The recent field recommendation authorizes the use of BriteCloud 218 for US Armed Service operations. This decoy system can not only be used on F-16, but is compatible with common dispensers, including AN/ALE-47. Leonardo's BriteCloud can also be incorporated into the F-15, F/A-18, and A-10 fighters.
Low integration costs and the ability for adaptation to future threats makes BriteCloud the ideal choice for expendable active decoys, ultimately keeping personnel safe, protecting critical assets, and allowing mission continuation.
