Leonardo is proud to share the U.S. Army has selected a next-generation precision-guided munition derived from Leonardo's Vulcano 155mm Guided Long Range (GLR) ammunition family for its Extended Range Artillery Projectile (ERAP) program.
Announced alongside our partners General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) and Diehl Defence, this selection reinforces Leonardo's position as a global design authority and reference point in guided artillery systems. The ERAP program is designed to deliver a rapid, low-risk, and highly mature solution that directly meets the U.S. Army’s urgent demand for long-range precision fires capable of operating in complex, GPS-contested environments.
The Vulcano 155mm represents the pinnacle of modern artillery technology, combining an exceptionally aerodynamic, sub-caliber design with an advanced guidance suite featuring autonomous INS/GPS navigation and Semi-Active Laser (SAL) terminal homing. The munition enables standard 155mm/39-caliber artillery platforms like the M109A7 howitzer to engage stationary and moving targets at ranges of up to 55 kilometers.
By contributing our foundational expertise in precision guidance and warhead technology, Leonardo is thrilled to help usher in a new era of strategic overmatch and pinpoint lethality for the U.S. warfighter while minimizing collateral damage.
