Supplier QA Engineer

The Supplier Quality Engineer will be responsible for supplier quality performance in support of Leonardo Electronics Inc and on behalf of our European affiliates who have suppliers based in North America. They will support Supply Chain and Manufacturing in the identification, sourcing and evaluation of suppliers to meet the needs of LEI.  The Supplier Quality Engineer will perform supplier quality control audits on a regular basis to ensure suppliers and their supplies remain in compliance with specified standards/specifications. The Supplier Quality Engineer will maintain and manage the AVL and will maintain a database to include performance evaluations, quality control audits and non-conformance/response records. 

 

Supplier quality assurance is a key element in the success of LEI to both retain and grow existing business and to assist in securing new business.  The Supplier Quality Engineer will liaise closely with the SCMS, LoB’s and Quality management teams to ensure effective support to the business.

Duties

  • Support Supply Chain and Manufacturing in the identification, sourcing and evaluation of suppliers to meet the needs of LEI.
  • Carry out Quality Control Audits on suppliers, prepare and submit audit reports to stakeholders including LMW.
  • Work closely with LMW Quality Assurance personnel to ensure prompt reporting/resolution of non-conforming product.
  • Manage and maintain LEI Approved Vendor Lists including management of supplier QA certifications.
  • Establish and maintain a supplier database to include performance evaluations, quality control audits and Non-conformance reporting/resolution for in-house access by management and manufacturing personnel.
  • Working closely with Contracts, SCMS and Project Managers to ensure flow down of Customer QA requirements into the Supply Chain and ensure Supplier conformance to those requirements.
  • Compliant record keeping in accordance with LEI process and procedures and in support of DCAA and DCMA requirements.
  • Support in the documentation for Source Review Boards to determine supplier selection based on technical, Quality and cost elements.
  • Ensure system data is maintained and accurate to support MRP/ERP requirements

Skills/Qualifications

  • Candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree or related work experience

  • A minimum of 8 - 10 years of supplier quality assurance experience in the defense/aerospace industry.
  • Must have a good understanding of manufacturing/production processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of quality control regulatory requirements ISO 9001, AS9100 etc.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Must have an ability to prioritize and respond to a changing environment.
  • Must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Must possess good analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Must possess good communication skills, both oral and written and at all levels within an organization with internal and external customers.
  • Must be results oriented and customer focused.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma and Kaizen would be an advantage.
