Photolithography Process Engineer

Responsibilities include development, continuous improvement, and sustaining processes all in close partnership with Device and Integration Engineering as well as design teams. The position reports to the Process Manager. Monitor and control of the process. Improve the process or introduce new processes and tools to improve yield, capacity, and quality. Work with the engineering team to develop new products. Work with the engineering team to transfer new products or a new process to production.

Position responsibilities include daily oversight of manufacturing operations, continuous improvement of operational processes for the Photo Process area.

  • Responsible for Photo lithography area.
  • Manage the process development procedure to ensure the transfer of process and products from the development phase to production release is completed successfully and on schedule.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain department Key Performance Indicators in line with internal and external customer needs.
  • Promote safety awareness, accident prevention and employee involvement with regards to safe work environment.
  • Prepare operating budgets to maintain engineering and manufacturing capability to support business demands of the wafer fab. Maintain focus on cost control for all photo activities and proactively encourage cost reduction and lean manufacturing principles. 
  • Lead and participate in engineering activities to specify, support and improve wafer fabrication processes for production including documentation, process controls, training and support
  • Define, direct and engage in engineering development of new fabrication processes to support R&D roadmap and transition to production.
  • Implement and support an effective program for process monitoring and controls (SPC) and continuous improvements.
  • Provide and coordinate engineering support for the photo production technicians regarding process and equipment.
  • Oversee the development of new recipes and processes with the Fab
  • Drive identification and implementation of process improvements to increase yield and reduce operating costs.
  • Identify new hardware requirements to meet the developing process/customer needs. Ensure these requirements are addressed appropriately with regard to specifications, budget constraints, supplier identification and thorough evaluation.
  • Develop, modify and/or continuously improve manufacturing process and procedures to enable higher productivity, reduced scrap, and improved quality.Perform necessary experiments to establish robust processes. Monitor, root cause and resolve process yield issues.


Bachelor’s degree required in Electronics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Material Science. Master’s degree, a plus. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. Experience in microfabrication/Laser Diode processes including photolithography, and wet and plasma etch techniques. Experience with photolithographic equipment and processes is preferred. Experience with photolithographic stepper technology. Expertise in Mask and Reticle design layout. Experience in developing a process from concept to manufacturing. Experience with LEAN and continuous improvement processes is preferred. Experience with DFSS, Lean manufacturing, or Green/Black Belt Six Sigma certification. Knowledge of DOE, statistical analysis methods, and data analysis tools (Minitab, JMP, Tableau, etc). Have the experience or aptitude to program, run, and troubleshoot automated equipment, machines. Performs equipment qualifications, process validations (Process characterization), and gage R&R studies. Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health, and safety related site rules, policies, or governmental regulations. Prefers to be hands-on with the equipment/process running the tool.
