Material Handler

The Shipping/Receiving/Material Handler will be responsible for performing the physical or administrative tasks involved in the shipping, receiving, order fulfillment, storing and distributing of materials, parts, supplies and equipment. Unpacks and checks goods received against purchase orders or invoices, maintains records of received goods and rejects unsatisfactory items. Lifts heavy items and may operate a forklift. Prepares and maintains records of merchandise shipped and received. Prepares goods for final shipment. Examines, stocks and distributes materials in inventory and on production lines. May prepare kitting packages for assembly production.

  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments ensuring no damage or visible issues with packaging.
  • Responsible for the prompt booking in of incoming shipments, verifying count, part number, revisions, description, and appropriate documentation. 
  • Handles transfer of goods from receiving to physical inventory locations.
  • Creation non-conformance reports for incorrect incoming material to be presented at Material Review Board (MRB) for review and disposition by SCMS management team.
  • Preparation and packaging of outgoing shipments including labels, packing lists, and other documentation; Ensures packaging is professional and protected padding/fillers utilized as needed.
  • Posts weight and shipping charges and affixes postage as needed.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications prior to sign off by QA representatives and Compliance.
  • Liaises with carriers to ensure the timely delivery/pick up of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Reviews and files complete shipping documents received from freight forwarders to ensure goods have been shipped as directed by SGI.
  • Ensures dangerous goods shipments are handled correctly by the freight forwarders and certifications and training records of agents re-packaging the shipment are obtained and included in the packet returned to SGI.
  • May operate hand-truck to move, convey or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving area to storage or work areas.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.

  • Microsoft Office Suite skills are required.
  • Knowledge of TIPQA preferred.


  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Training will be provided but some related experience in this area is preferred.
