Material Handler

The Material Handler will be responsible for verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment under the direction of the SCMS Procurement Manager. Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments against bills of lading, packing lists, invoices or other records.  Prepares shipments in strict accordance with company and government regulations.

Shipping and Receiving is a key element in the success of LEI to both retain and grow existing business and to assist in the securing of new business. The Material Handler is important in ensuring that LEI complies with all US Government requirements and all company process and procedures as it relates to the incoming and outgoing of shipments.

Duties

  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments ensuring no damage or visible issues with packaging.
  • Responsible for the prompt booking in of incoming shipments, verifying count, part number, revisions, description and appropriate documentation.
  • Transfer of goods from receiving to physical inventory locations.
    Creation of non-conformance reports for incorrect incoming material to be presented at Material Review Board (NRB) for review and disposition by QA.
  • Preparation and packaging of outgoing shipments including labels, packing lists, and other documentation.
  • Ensure packaging is professional and protected padding/fillers utilized as needed.
  • Posts weight and shipping charges and affixes postage as needed.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications prior to sign off by QA and Compliance.
  • Liaise with carriers to ensure the timely delivery/pick up of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • May operate hand-truck to move, convey or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving area to storage or work areas.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Assist the SCMS Procurement Manager in identifying areas for improvement and efficiencies for the area.
  • Alert the SCMS Procurement Manager to any hazardous or dangerous equipment or incidents so that appropriate action can be taken.
  • Accurately maintain all records required by the US Government and LEI to support both internal and external audits.
  • Assist with document development and maintenance as they relate to Shipping and Receiving.

  • Understands the role, function and critical importance of Shipping and Receiving as it relates to the organization.
  • Has a professional and ethical approach with colleagues and with Customers at all times.
  • An ability to prioritize and accurately respond to a changing, dynamic environment.
  • Microsoft Excel and Word skills are required
  • Knowledge of TIPQA would be an advantage

  • Entry level position; training will be provided.
