IT Software Engineer & Database Administrator

The Software Engineer & Database Administrator will be responsible for developing and maintain in house custom applications to support manufacturing operations. The candidate will also be responsible for the day-to-day databases operations including query development and tuning, developer code review and support developers with apply principles of data management and query. Maintain database backup and restore procedures, troubleshooting, security, development, documentation, and optimization. Responsible for assisting business process owners with data extraction and software development teams in optimizing database structure for speed and reliable access.

Duties

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain business applications.
  • Adhere to IT processes including, documentation, change control process, requirements definition, and record keeping.
  • Manage high availability MS SQL databases in a MS SQL Cluster.
  • Responsible for capacity and storage planning.
  • Identifies database requirements by interviewing customers; analyzing current applications, programming, and operations; and designing proposed improvements for current systems as well as future systems.
  • Recommends solutions by documenting and analyzing current databases’ physical structures and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
  • Implements improvements to existing systems as well as develops requirements for new systems coordinating with server administrators and end users on installation requirements (time, costs, etc.).
  • Monitor and manage capacity and performance by production and test databases, calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; and recommending hardware products.
  • Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Skills/Qualifications

  • 3+ Years of VB. Net, VB6, MS Access, SQL Programing, Visual SourceSafe, Source Reliance
  • 5+ Years of database administrator experience, Crystal Reports 
  • Manufacturing experience preferred 
  • Syspro, SAP, and or Siemens MES experience preferred
  • Experience with debugging and tuning of SQL code, Procedures, Functions, and Indexes
  • Working knowledge of SQL and PowerShell scripting
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2019 as well as experience with previous versions and other databases (MySQL, Access, etc.)
  • Should have a thorough understanding of databases, database optimization, database programming, and the SQL programming language
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interface with all levels of staff from clerical to executive management
  • Must understand of current information technology with an ability to conceptualize solutions to business problems in an effective and cost-efficient manner
  • Must be organized, a self-starter and must have ability to prioritize work. Excellent written/verbal communication skills

Education

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience in related field preferred
  • Applicable Certifications (MCSA, etc.)

  • Remote work as applicable, must be local to Tucson, AZ
