Failure Analysis Engineer

To provide support of business processes at Leonardo. These business processes include, but are not limited to, manufacturing processes, engineering, financial, materials and associated supporting processes, and systems.

Will also manage projects in support of manufacturing for the introduction of new products and processes, in support of the improvement of existing products and processes. This work includes: project planning activities, project team management, project plan execution, and project close-out. Employee will use efficient, appropriate, controlled processes for the execution of projects, provide analytical and problem solving support, employing engineering skills, in support of business processes. And determine opportunities for improvements in existing processes and operations, and, to initiate and execute projects that yield those improvements. Additional responsibilities include coordinating and managing change, driving Continuous Improvement and providing Process Engineering expertise in support of project teams and problem solving teams. Conducts studies in operations to optimize workflow and spatial utilization. Ensures facility efficiency and workplace safety.

Duties

  • Analyze RMA’s identifying the root cause using different techniques SEM/EDS, SIMS, Acoustic Microscopy, among others at
    different levels
  • Design of Experiments (DOE) and data analysis to support engineering efforts to improve product design and manufacturability
  • Performance measurement and analysis to monitor and improve manufacturing
  • Applying various statistical methods to improve reproducibility and manufacturability through Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) , Control Plan and Gage R&R studies
  • Data analysis and improvements to manufacturing capabilities
  • Presents, facilitates and leads assigned process improvement events using methods of culture-appropriate team building, team energizing, data gathering and analysis, problem solving, project management and state of the art presentation and platform skills
  • Adhere to all company Policies and Procedures and actively promotes Continuous Improvement and its activities and services to others
  • Maximize space utilization through layout evaluation, design, and improvements, using design software such as AutoCAD
  • Arrange and maintain facility and equipment unscheduled and preventive maintenance activities to minimize manufacturing downtime.
  • Reviews and monitors processes and makes recommendations for improvements. Setup and monitoring statistical process and control (SPC) charts
  • Work with R&D engineers to transfer new products to production line. Setup production line, SPC charts and yield report for the new production lines. Provide and maintain cost model for all products.
  • Documentation and quality control in production lines
  • Lead process improvement teams intended to increase throughput by reducing process time and increasing yield (Lean Sigma)
  • Work with materials manager for supply chain optimization and inventory minimization through creating and implementing raw material Kanban’s
  • Work with information technology department to improve database structures and collection methods to improve manufacturing
  • Performs all other related and compatible duties as assigned
  • Oversee the development of new recipes and processes with the Fab
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with applicable departments and suppliers to evaluate potential new processes and materials to improve cost, yield, reliability and quality

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 8 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Performs a variety of tasks.
  • Comfortable level of competency in the following software applications:
  • Must have knowledge of process of semiconductor lasers.
  • Clean room manufacturing environment, experience working in cleanrooms and
    labs.
  • Exposure to medium to long term projects. Prior hands-on fab experience in multiple process modules is a must.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership capabilities to drive and deliver results through motivating cross-cultural teams.
  • Highly proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and statistical software.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability.
  • Appreciation of both practical and theoretical methodologies.
  • Experienced in equipment selection, commissioning and process set-up.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting guides, working documentation, safety.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and reliability assessment.
  • Strong SPC and DOE skill set and experience.
  • Experience with Lean and 5S programs.
  • Demonstrated success in project management.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
