Business Development - Defense

A technical business development role requiring the development of new and support of existing key accounts within the defense markets.  At a technical level, become well versed in the Lasertel's core competencies, technologies and products and have the ability to effectively communicate these to customers.  Embrace Leonardo Electronics sales strategy and sales process.  Rely on the extensive experience and judgment to develop business plans, meet sales goals and achieve customer satisfaction.  Perform a variety of tasks interfacing directly with the customer senior management, engineering and production personnel.

  • Achieve sales targets
  • Support customers through the entire sales process (identification, qualification, quotation, order,
    delivery and follow up) and maintain documentation through a CRM system.
  • Review and evaluate customer technical requirements
  • Lead and assist with tradeshows and sales exhibit planning
  • Market research and analysis
  • Author and review business and technical proposals
  • Support development of collateral and marketing data: Product data sheets, specifications, application notes, and technical papers
  • Meet established sales goals for products and services in support of the overall sales plan
  • Prepare and present sales information, presentations and quotations
  • Organize and attend meetings at customer locations (travel is required, mostly domestic)
  • Contribute to development of market strategies and goals
  • Participate in sales forecasting and planning by monitoring and analyzing sales data, researching, developing and maintaining long (3-5 year) and short (quarterly) range sales forecasts
  • Customer focused - develop and maintain positive professional relationships with customers
  • Establish strong working relationships with internal staff


The ideal candidate offers the following:

  • 5 years or more of experience in laser technology in the role of technical sales or business development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration, Advanced degree (MBA,MS) beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Military/defense experience a plus.
  • Ability to interpret industry needs and directions, assess capacity, and to plan, develop, and implement appropriate sales and marketing strategies.
